Samsung Electronics plans to include Baidu's Ernie Bot prominently in its upcoming Galaxy S24 smartphone series in China, positioning the new handsets as the vanguard of a new era of AI smartphones.

According to Gadgets360, Baidu's AI tools, including text summarisation, organisation, and translation capabilities, will be integrated into the Galaxy S24 series. Additionally, Baidu's artificial intelligence will support Samsung's "circle to search" feature in China, a function that is handled by Google in other markets.

While Google's Android software is common in Chinese smartphones, its add-on services and app store are not accessible, leading local companies to fill gaps with alternatives like Tencent's WeChat.

This collaboration indicates a significant adoption of Baidu's Ernie AI by Samsung, presenting a Chinese alternative to OpenAI's ChatGPT.

Samsung's market share in the highly competitive Chinese smartphone market has diminished to around 1-2 per cent in recent years, facing tough competition from Apple's iPhones and domestic brands like Xiaomi and Huawei Technologies.

Featuring Ernie prominently in the Galaxy S24 series could be a strategic move to attract its existing user base while aiming to carve a niche in the market, especially with the emphasis on foldable phones.
