The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has cancelled the license of Money Link Exchange Company (Pvt.) Ltd., after the company requested the central bank to terminate its operations.

Money Link Exchange was a licensed business that was permitted to carry on the business of foreign exchange in Pakistan. Exchange companies provide a service in the manner of buying and selling currency and facilitating remittances.

However, the company has opted to voluntarily close the business, according to a notice from the SBP.

The State Bank of Pakistan has cancelled Money Link Exchange Company’s authorisation to operate in the foreign exchange business. The cancellation took effect from the date the company officially closed its operations, following its own request.

The SBP stated that Money Link Exchange Company is not authorised to undertake any transactions in foreign exchange, including the purchase or sale of foreign currency or any overseas remittance.

Notably, the SBP's repeated cancellation of exchange companies' authorisations is part of its ongoing monitoring of exchange companies in Pakistan to ensure compliance and that only licensed and active businesses operate.

The foreign exchange has a critical role in ensuring that business is conducted transparently, and the SBP regulates the closures of exchange companies.
