In a bid to offer women a practical and affordable means of transport for daily commutes and long-distance travel, the Sindh government has launched an initiative to provide free electric bikes (e-bikes) to women.

The move comes as a praiseworthy step towards empowering women in a society where it's difficult for them to leverage public transport to ensure safe and affordable mobility.

The provision of e-bikes is aimed at facilitating women’s daily commute for work in Sindh.

As per the details disclosed by Ary News, the Sindh Transport Department plans to distribute 1,200 electric bikes annually, with 100 women receiving 100 e-bikes every month.

To fund this project, the transport department has requested Rs300 million, which will be allocated outside the regular budget.

It should be noted that, the electric bikes will be offered through an open balloting system at no cost, ensuring a fair distribution among aspiring applicants.

This initiative is part of the Sindh government's efforts to promote the use of electric vehicles (EVs), reducing dependence on imported fuel and protecting the environment.

It should be noted that the proposal is set to be discussed and approved by the provincial cabinet, paving the way for the implementation of this initiative.
