As excitement has been building around the availability of satellite-based internet in Pakistan, State Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja on Monday confirmed that Starlink is expected to offer its internet service countywide by November or December this year.
The IT minister made these remarks during a National Assembly session, briefing the Standing Committee on Information Technology about the much-awaited launch of Starlink in Pakistan.
Starlink's licensing process is advancing without undergoing any complications, she assured, adding that a variety of aspects needed to be looked after, considering the uniqueness of the satellite-based technology.
Regarding the constitution of regulations for Elon Musk's satellite-driven, high-speed internet services, she noted that a consultant was hired to compose a final draft.
Following the successful completion of the regulatory framework for Starlink in Pakistan, the company shall be required to formally reapply for licensing.
