As Pakistan gears up to embrace the launch of Starlink, all four major telecommunication companies, including Jazz, Ufone, Telenor and Zong, have expressed satisfaction over the competition impending alongside Elon Musk's globally popular satellite internet service.
Awaiting a final nod of approval from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Starlink is set to penetrate the South Asian nation shortly this year.
Given Starlink's skyrocketing popularity, coupled with its unmatched ultra-high internet speeds, the realm of telecom services has reportedly been witnessing vivid signs of scepticism as to audiences' preferential leanings towards Musk's satellite-based internet service.
Admitting the uncertainty looming over Starlink's actual impact on Pakistan's telecom sector, all telecom giants were of the view that Starlink will offer its services at a high price point which is less likely to take a toll on their existing, fibre-driven data services in the urban areas that come at a relatively affordable cost.
“In the short run, there could be clients subscribing to the Starlink services, but these are very expensive, so not everybody will fall into this segment,” said a senior executive of a telco, according to Dawn.
While the telecos collectively view Starlink as an expensive internet option for audiences, a Starlink Pakistan official remarked that the marketing strategy would be decided later at the time of the internet services' full-fledged inauguration in the country.
