In a positive development for travellers, Sweden has reopened its visa services in Islamabad, allowing Pakistani citizens to apply for short-term Schengen visas once again.
The visa facility will open on Monday, allowing Pakistanis to travel to Sweden for tourism, family visits, and business meetings.
The announcement was made by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs following a key diplomatic meeting held in Stockholm last Wednesday.
The two countries held the Bilateral Political Consultations, contributing to the relaunching of the visa facility. The two sides were keenly interested in establishing a strong diplomatic relationship and enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and Sweden.
The Pakistani delegation was led by the Additional Foreign Secretary (Europe), and the Director General headed the Swedish delegation for Global Affairs. The two sides discussed and pledged to improve bilateral relations with a particular emphasis on trade, investment, education, and people-to-people contacts.
Visa service had been suspended for some time, which created hardships for many Pakistanis, especially students and families. It is expected that the reopening of visa services would have a significantly positive impact on travel, cultural exchange, and the promotion of business links between Pakistan and Sweden.
In a statement, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the move, calling it a “positive step” that reflects growing friendship between the nations. The ministry added that this will help build stronger bridges between the people of both countries.
