At the CES in Las Vegas, Volkswagen unveiled its inaugural vehicles equipped with a voice assistant integrating ChatGPT technology. This innovation allows drivers to access researched content read aloud while on the road.
Through a collaboration with Cerence Inc., the chatbot embedded in these vehicles can manage entertainment functions and respond to general knowledge inquiries. Volkswagen envisions future enhancements that could involve conversational interactions between the chatbot and drivers, diversifying its functionality within the vehicle.
Positioning itself as a trailblazer, Volkswagen announced its commitment to making this technology a standard feature in its compact segment cars, asserting its distinction as the first volume manufacturer to adopt such a practice.
Last March, GM expressed its development of a virtual personal assistant using AI models similar to ChatGPT. Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz conducted a test initiative in June, allowing approximately 900,000 vehicles equipped with the "MBUX" system to access ChatGPT. This step aimed to enable users to perform tasks such as booking movie tickets or restaurant reservations while driving.
