Xiaomi has confirmed its plans to enter the global electric vehicle (EV) market by 2027, setting the stage for tough competition with top automakers.
Xiaomi President William Lu announced this at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 when the company launched its new EV, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra. This is the first time Xiaomi provided a clear roadmap for its global EV expansion.
The company further revealed that starting in March 2025, it will start evaluating European markets for expansion, signaling the beginning of its international growth plan.
Xiaomi to electric cars globally by 2027
Xiaomi entered the EV market in 2021 and introduced its first electric vehicle, the Xiaomi SU7, in March 2024. The all-electric sedan was an instant success, selling out its 2024 production in only 24 hours.
The starting price is 215,900 yuan ($29,700), and it comes with a 73.6 kWh battery, which provides a range of 700 km (CLTC). This top-of-the-line model features a 101 kWh battery, giving it a range of 800 km.
Many experts initially doubted Xiaomi’s ability to succeed in the competitive EV market. However, the company’s rapid success has silenced skeptics.
Moreover, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, launched in China on February 27, 2025, further boosted confidence in Xiaomi’s EV ambitions. With 1,527 horsepower and a price of 529,900 yuan ($72,700), the car sold 10,000 units within just two hours. Total orders have now surpassed 19,000, exceeding initial expectations.
Xiaomi aims to strengthen its position in China before expanding globally. The company has already invested $10 billion into its EV division and plans to use its expertise in smart technology and AI to enhance its vehicles.
