Kia is making its first significant entry into the Australian ute market with the all-new 2025 Kia Tasman, and it is already attracting attention because of its pricing.

The Tasman is Kia’s first-ever ute designed for work and play, with the most recent cab/chassis version of the ute appearing online with prices that undercut popular competitors, including the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger.

These models are listed on the pricing site RedBook before the official launch, and the Tasman appears to be a serious prospect.

Kia Tasman specifications

All variants will have a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel producing 154 kW and 440Nm mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, with respectable fuel use of 7.6L/100k. It also boasts solid utility with 3500kg towing capacity, 1127kg payload, and 206mm ground clearance on 17-inch steel wheels.

Kia will officially launch the Tasman range in August 2025, although further variants like single-cab variants are anticipated later this year.

Kia Tasman price (expected)

According to leaked RedBook listings, the Kia Tasman S 4×4 dual-cab/chassis will start at $48,240 before on-road costs. That’s $1,750 cheaper than the Tasman pickup variant and significantly lower than key competitors.

For comparison:

  • Ford Ranger Bi-Turbo XL 4×4 cab/chassis: $51,730
  • Toyota HiLux Workmate 4×4 cab/chassis: $48,735

An upgraded Tasman SX 4×4 cab/chassis is expected to be priced at around $52,740
