The Toyota Hilux, known for its rugged build and reliability, has been one of the world’s most popular pickup trucks for decades. Now, the 2026 model has been seen undergoing road tests in Thailand, giving us the first peek into what’s coming next.

Photos of the heavily camouflaged vehicle show that Toyota is not making any dramatic changes but rather going for a refined and updated look. This strategy reflects Toyota’s focus on evolution over revolution.

2026 Toyota Hilux features

Reportedly, the body shape remains largely unchanged from the version available since 2015. There are a few changes, especially at the front and rear.

The new Hilux pickup features new headlights, a larger mesh honeycomb grille, and new taillights that look to be influenced by the Toyota Tacoma, which was recently updated in the United States.

Some experts also expect the new 2026 Hilux pickup may change to the TNGA-F ladder-frame platform, which could onboard hybrid engine options for greater fuel economy and lower emissions.

Reportedly, Toyota would be pushed forward with its existing 2.4-litre turbo-diesel and 2.7-litre petrol engines; whether or not that will mean upgrades to the respective engines to meet stricter Euro 6 emission standards is yet to be seen.

While the chassis is expected to be quite possibly unchanged, a very different interior design appears to be in store for the new Hilux, with a new interior based on the latest Toyota Camry, a more modern, refined feel for the vehicle moving forward.

Moreover, a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen is being introduced, and other tech improvements on the new model are set to improve the overall ownership experience.

Furthermore, the global launch of the 2026 Toyota Hilux is expected later this year, with deliveries commencing early in 2026.
