Much to the dismay of thousands of female teachers across Punjab, the recently approved 2025-26 fiscal budget does not allocate any funds to provide free electric scooters.
As it stands, the much-awaited initiative to ease teachers' transportation woes across the province remains unfulfilled.
The development comes in contradiction to the School Education Department's previous announcement for the distribution, which led to significant hope among female educators.
It was also reported that the initiative, being sidelined due to the absence of a budget allocation, has led to widespread disappointment and frustration within the teaching fraternity. This is despite a public commitment made by the provincial education minister to offer this benefit to both school and college teachers.
In the wake of the Punjab government's disregard for the much-touted program, many female teachers have raised their concerns.
The female teachers are of the view that access to scooters would ease their daily commutes, especially given challenging traffic conditions, helping them to arrive at their respective educational institutions on time.
The lack of funding has dashed the hopes of female teachers across Punjab, as they had anticipated the scheme to improve their mobility.
