As the demand for electric vehicles is increasing in Pakistan, companies are developing EVs to fulfil this demand. Looking at this, Yousuf Dewan Companies (YDC) and Shanghai Launch Automotive Technology Co., Ltd (LAUNCH) have partnered to develop Pakistan’s first National Electric Car.

This collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Beijing, having plans to introduce cutting-edge EV technology to Pakistan, promote sustainable transportation, and establish local EV manufacturing.

Development of Pakistan’s National Electric Car – YDC and LAUNCH will join hands to design and manufacture a locally assembled EV, leveraging LAUNCH’s advanced technology.

Local Assembly Operations (CKD) – The agreement includes plans to establish completely knocked-down (CKD) assembly operations for various battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

These will include right-hand drive (RHD) and left-hand drive (LHD) models, catering to domestic and export markets.

This partnership marks a major milestone in Pakistan’s transition to sustainable transportation. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Science Councilor Khan Muhammad Wazir and YDC Director of Projects Idrees Gigi highlighted the significance of EV development in reducing emissions and promoting energy efficiency.

LAUNCH representative stated: “We are excited to collaborate with YDC to introduce our world-class EV technology to Pakistan. This agreement underscores our commitment to sustainable mobility and strengthens our global presence in the EV industry.”

On the other hand, Gigi said: “This partnership with LAUNCH is a transformative moment for Pakistan’s EV sector. By localizing production and introducing the latest EV models, we aim to accelerate sustainable transportation and contribute to Pakistan’s economic and environmental goals.”

The YDC-LAUNCH partnership is likely to fast-track Pakistan’s EV industry, making affordable and high-quality electric vehicles accessible to consumers.
