Hangar 13, a Mafia developer, has been working on the next installment of the Mafia franchise for some years. Official updates and information on the upcoming Mafia title have been limited since its existence was disclosed in 2022.

Earlier, some reported suggested that the game will be a prequel, with plans to build it in Unreal Engine 5.

Moreover, after nearly two years since the unnamed Mafia game was first confirmed, publisher 2K is ready to make an official announcement about the franchise.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), video game researcher @Kurakasis said: “I can tell you that a few days ago, Take-Two began preparations for an announcement regarding the Mafia series.”

Citing sources, Gadgets360 reported that it was difficult to predict when 2K would make the announcement, but we may expect something in three to four weeks, consistent with the revelation schedule of a prior leak.

In addition, “it's hard for me to determine the timeframe, but with Judas, I've seen them gearing up for the new trailer about 3-4 weeks before it dropped, so... soon,” Kurakasis reported.

However, the Mafia series announcement would not necessarily be tied to Mafia 4. It might be a next-generation upgrade for Mafia: Trilogy, which contains the Mafia: Definitive Edition remake, a Mafia 2 remaster, and a Mafia 3 port, or something else different, Kurakasis claimed.

The next Mafia game is more likely to be a fresh installment in the series rather than a next-generation upgrade. It's unknown whether the future game will continue the plot of 2016's Mafia 3 or serve as a prequel to earlier Mafia titles.

Moreover, the developer of Mafia will also release TopSpin 2K25, a reboot of the iconic tennis video game series, later this month. The tennis simulator will be released on April 26 for the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, and PC.
