In a much-awaited confirmation unfolding in Pakistan's internet connectivity space, Amazon's Project Kuiper is set to launch satellite internet services in Pakistan by the end of 2026.
This announcement comes on the heels of a meeting between State Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja and a delegation from Amazon’s satellite broadband venture.
Project Kuiper involves a multi-billion-dollar investment and aims to expand high-speed internet access worldwide, with underserved and remote areas being its biggest beneficiaries.
The minister expressed enthusiasm for Amazon’s arrival in Pakistan, stating: “Project Kuiper’s entry into Pakistan is a vital step towards advancing digital inclusion and strengthening our connectivity ecosystem.”
She emphasised that these investments are in line with the government’s vision of building a Digital Nation Pakistan, where all citizens can equally access fast, affordable, and secure internet.
The Kuiper team plans to establish ground infrastructure in Pakistan, including gateways and points of presence (PoPs), to ensure reliable connectivity and seamless integration with the local digital ecosystem. With a constellation of up to 3,236 satellites, Project Kuiper is anticipated to deliver high-performance internet services, with speeds reaching up to 400 Mbps through affordable terminals.
This alliance is expected to bring new opportunities to Pakistan’s IT sector, improving connectivity and innovation while bridging the digital divide.
The IT ministry reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating global partnerships that are consistent with Pakistan's ongoing push for nationwide connectivity and digitalisation.
