Shortly after the rollout of the Android 15 update to Pixel devices, Google seems to be working on Android 16 OS which is yet to be announced officially.
However, adding to the already existing rumours, a recent report suggested that Google will likely introduce iPhone-like ongoing notifications with this new update.
Dynamic Island-inspired notifications on Android 16
Citing Android 15 QPR1 beta 3, Android Authority reported that the Android 16 might come with new “Rich Ongoing Notifications.”
The new notification system will let users keep live notifications on the Android status bar by allowing apps to create “chips” in the status bar instead of icons. In beta version, it is a pill-shaped icon with custom text and background colour to the Android status bar.

This new update looks similar to the iOS Live Activities feature, which features timers, sports scores, and delivery ETAs on iPhone's lock screens. On iPhone 14 Pro and above, these notifications appear as widgets and are called Dynamic Island.
However, this Dynamic Island-inspired feature on Android 16 might differ from Apple's approach as Android’s implementation will utilise the top-left status bar space rather than surrounding the notch like iPhones.
Furthermore, there are rumours that other smartphone brands such as OnePlus and Infinix are also taking Dynamic Island’s key elements.
