Google on Thursday unveiled that “Android will have more frequent SDK releases,” confirming the launch of Android 16 in Q2 2025 and it is set to receive a developer preview.
Android software development kit (SDK) introduced a plethora of compelling features that are beneficial for app developers. Alphabet-owned Google is all set to bring a few significant modifications next year, as the major launch is happening earlier than the anticipated time.
While Q4 2025 will get a minor SDK release with “feature updates, optimisations, and bug fixes since the major release.” However, it will receive the latest developer APIs, instead of “including any app-impacting behaviour changes.”

Meanwhile “minor releases will not increment the API level,” Alphabet-owned Google will roll out a “new minor API level value, which will be accessed through a constant that captures both major and minor API levels.”
With that the American tech giant has only confirmed all the major and minor releases scheduled for 2025, so all the upcoming updates are yet to be seen.
The Q1 and Q3 of 2025 will persist to receive Android releases which “provide incremental updates to help ensure continuous quality” and exceptional features, promoting innovative and escalated quality and polished across releases.
