EA Sports officially confirmed on Tuesday that it will be taking down the servers for NBA Live 19, which will effectively end online support for one of the most popular basketball games it has produced.

Many EA and sports games are heavily dependent on online features, which allow for multiplayer matches, live updates, and competitions with the community.

However, when servers go offline, much of the online experience is lost forever. This raises ongoing concerns about game preservation within the industry.

EA keeps an updated list of server shutdowns so that players can have a chance to revisit their favourite games before they go offline. This way, players can earn online trophies and achievements before they no longer have access to them.

NBA Live 19 was released in 2018 and received a mixed reception but is often considered one of the better entries in the NBA Live franchise in the 2010s, with a 73 rating on review aggregators.

Meanwhile, NBA Live 19 may have improved some functionalities, but the series overall could never compete with the NBA 2K franchise, which was far more popular.

The shutdown of NBA Live 19 is part of a larger trend of server shutdowns. EA is also shutting down Anthem on January 12, 2026, with more titles expected to follow throughout the year.
