All four models of the recently unveiled iPhone 16 lineup are set to support 8GB of RAM for the first time, according to one of Apple’s executives.

Prior to the iPhone 16 launch, many reports had suggested that the iPhone 16, 16 Plus and both of the iPhone 16 Pro models might get a boost with the addition of 8GB of RAM, compared to its predecessor which had 6GB.

Previously, Apple used more RAM in the Pro variants to differentiate the standard and the Pro models of the iPhone.

iPhone 16 series will now have 8GB of RAM

Apple’s Vice President of Hardware Tech Johny Srouji reportedly confirmed that the new iPhone 16 series will come with 8GB of RAM, ending the traditional distinction. The confirmation came while the official was having a conversation with the Geekerwan YouTube channel.

Srouji revealed that while “DRAM” was a crucial aspect of Apple Intelligence the company added 8GB RAM support on all four models to help improve other tasks such as high-end gaming and AAA-titled games.

“Our goal is to build the best products, delivering the best user experience. As it relates to Apple Intelligence, DRAM is one aspect. And when we look at what we’re building, whether it’s silicon, hardware, or software, we don’t want to be wasteful,” he added.

Alongside discussing Apple’s hardware performance details, Srouji also talked about the characteristics of the A18 chips in the new phones, the company’s approach to thermal design, and many other upgrades.

The iPhone 16 models will be available to buy from Friday, September 20. However, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will start shipping between October 7 and October 14.
