A report recently published by the Wall Street Journal disclosed that Apple and Meta have engaged in discussions regarding a potential collaboration on AI features. Specifically, Meta had expressed interest in introducing its own AI chatbot to iOS 18. However, Apple reportedly declined to pursue this partnership.

According to Bloomberg, which cited its own sources, Apple turned down a proposal to integrate Meta’s AI chatbot with iOS several months ago. The report mentions that both companies engaged in “preliminary talks” about a potential deal around the same period that Apple was also considering partnerships with OpenAI and Google.

Apple chose not to proceed with the deal in part due to disagreements with Meta's privacy policies. “Apple has no active plans to integrate Llama,” the report states.

At WWDC 2024, Apple unveiled a collaboration with OpenAI to incorporate ChatGPT into Siri and Apple Intelligence in iOS 18. When Apple's own AI cannot answer a query, users will be asked if they want ChatGPT to respond. Apple has announced that more AI platforms will be added in the future, allowing users to select the most suitable option for them.

Apple selected OpenAI as its initial choice because it considers ChatGPT to be the leading AI chatbot currently available. Nonetheless, a future partnership with Google remains a possibility.

Apple Intelligence is set to launch later this year as part of the iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia updates. Initially, it will be available in US English for iPhone 15 Pro, and iPad and Mac models equipped with the M1 chip or newer. Support for additional languages and regions will be introduced progressively.
