Apple is reportedly working on smart glasses, scheduled to launch in 2027, with a possible unveiling at the end of this year, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
As per Gurman report, Apple is testing four designs, and could ultimately launch with some or all of them. In some ways, these smart glasses are a step back from an ambitious plan that once called for Apple to launch a variety of mixed and augmented reality (AR) devices — a plan that already stumbled with product delays and the lackluster reception of the Vision Pro.
The Cupertino-based tech giant is likely to launch some or all four of the smart glasses' designs under consideration:
- A large rectangular frame, reminiscent of Ray-Ban Wayfarers.
- A slimmer rectangular design, similar to the glasses worn by Apple Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tim Cook.
- Larger oval or circular frames.
- A smaller, more refined oval or circular option.
Apple smart glasses will reportedly sound closer to the Meta's Ray-Ban glasses, allowing users to take photos and videos, answer phone calls, play music, and interact with the long-promised Siri upgrade.
When will Apple launch smart glasses?
Gurman reported that Apple could reveal its smart glasses as soon as the end of 2026 or early 2027, followed by an official release sometime in 2027.
As for the competition, Meta launched its latest model of smart glasses that's better suited for prescription lenses and offers a more customisable fit.
