With the iOS 18.4 software update, Apple is set to introduce a new feature that utilises artificial intelligence (AI) to provide summaries of App Store reviews.
Powered by Apple Intelligence, the feature aims to offer users a concise overview of an app's strengths and weaknesses based on reviews from other users.
AI-powered app review summaries on App Store
Generated by large language models (LLMs), the review summaries will highlight key information in a short paragraph. It should be noted that the summaries will be refreshed weekly for apps and games with a sufficient number of reviews.
To ensure the accuracy and reliability of these summaries, users can report any issues by tapping and holding on review, while developers can alert Apple to problems via App Store Connect.
Initially, the AI-powered review summaries will be available in the US in the English language, with plans to expand it to additional markets and languages later this year.
Notably, Apple is not the first company to use AI for review analysis, as Amazon and Google have also introduced similar features on their platforms.
Although this feature aims to enhance the user experience, it also raises concerns about the potential increase of fake reviews and manipulation.
iOS review summaries availability
The AI-powered review summaries are currently available to beta testers and will be rolled out to the public in April with the release of iOS 18.4. It will also be available on iPadOS 18.4.
