Apple is finally preparing to join the foldable phone segment with its first foldable iPhone. The new phone will function as a mini tablet when unfolded and as a normal smartphone when folded, just like Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold or Google's Pixel Fold.
It's likely to be released alongside the iPhone 18 series.
Foldable iPhone specifications (expected)
Apple is said to be developing two foldable devices: a foldable iPhone and a 20-inch foldable iPad. The foldable iPhone will be released first.
The device, according to the rumours, will have a 7.8-inch inner screen and a 5.5-inch outer screen. The screen will be crease-free, providing a smooth and clean appearance.
Interestingly, it should fold like a book and possibly have a 4:3 aspect ratio like the iPad mini. Because it will be designed thin, opening at 4.5mm and closing at 9mm, Face ID can potentially be removed. In its place, Touch ID would come back to the side button.
Apple would use titanium and stainless steel to construct it so that it will be both resilient and slender.
Foldable iPhone price and availability (expected)
The price of the foldable iPhone will be steep. Leaks indicate it will be between $2,100 and $2,300, higher than Samsung and Google's foldables. Apple wants a premium product, and the price will mirror that.
Apple will most likely launch the foldable iPhone during the second half of 2026, alongside the iPhone 18 series.
In addition, the project has been assigned a fresh codename (V68), indicating that it has passed the initial phases.
