With social media persistently becoming a commonplace for inappropriate content, including heated arguments sparked by hatred-provoking content, Balochistan is planning to introduce its first-ever official social media policy.

The social media policy is reported to promote ethical online engagement and encourage youth to participate in shaping and portraying a positive image of the province.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti brought the development to light during a meeting with social media influencers on Saturday, Dawn reported.

“In today’s world, the influence of social media cannot be ignored. It can either serve as a tool for progress or a weapon for misinformation,” he stated.

The policy has been finalised and will soon take effect, he said, urging people with massive followings to use their fanbase to promote social integrity and national unity.

Bugti was of the view that the responsible use of social media can drive positive change.

While offering freedom of expression and serving as a platform for constructive criticism, social media is also likely to increase the spread of misinformation, the Balochistan CM remarked while welcoming positive feedback from influencers and pledged to address their concerns.
