Tekken 8 director Katsuhiro Harada has suggested the possibility of bringing the acclaimed fighting franchise to the Nintendo Switch 2. Although there has been no official confirmation, Harada offered in a recent interview that while it is one of the smarter business moves he has considered, it would be a technical challenge.

Launched in 2024, it has proven to be a success for Bandai Namco, selling over 3 million copies in just under a year and beating the launch sales of the previous game, Tekken 7.

With the success of the game, fans are wondering if Tekken 8 will also be available on Nintendo's new console, especially with multiple other fighting games that have done well in sales on the system.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Harada responded that the possibility of a Switch 2 port was "interesting" and "not totally off the table." He believes a Switch 2 port could potentially allow Tekken 8 to have an audience with even more players, especially considering Nintendo's new console sold over 6 million units in less than 2 months.

While he mentioned that the option for a possible Switch 2 port was feasible, he said making it all work smoothly would be difficult from a technical standpoint, so it would be "not a very easy decision."

The interest in fighting games on the Switch 2 is clear. Earlier this year, Street Fighter 6 launched on the console and quickly surpassed 5 million sales across all platforms. This shows there’s a strong appetite for big-name fighters among Nintendo fans.

Tekken 8 could benefit from that expanded audience, especially after recent character additions such as Muay Thai fighter Fahkumram sparked debate within the community.
