After months of speculation, Rockstar Games finally revealed the next big update for Grand Theft Auto Online. Titled "A Safehouse in the Hills", the new patch launches this coming December 10 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
While the fans anticipated the long-rumoured "Mansions Update", Rockstar pulled one over on everybody with confirmation of the return of a fan-favourite character: Michael De Santa of Grand Theft Auto V, in his first appearance since 2013.
It has been 12 years since players last saw Michael in the GTA V storyline. While Franklin and Trevor have appeared multiple times in online expansions, Michael has remained absent until now.
According to Rockstar's new blog post and trailer, Michael is front and centre throughout the footage, suggesting a major role, not too different from how Franklin was deeply involved in The Contract update. His return has re-energised long-time fans who had practically lost hope of ever seeing him again.
New mansions, AI assistant, and more gameplay features
The update finally adds the long-asked-for luxury housing system through Prix Luxury Real Estate, enabling players to buy custom-designed mansions with:
- Expansive outdoor areas
- Detailed, premium interiors
- A built-in AI Assistant to help manage in-game tasks
Players can also expect new missions, vehicles, and upgrades, adding fresh content to the decade-old online world.
GTA VI delayed again
In parallel to the Online announcement, Rockstar also confirmed another delay for Grand Theft Auto VI.
The release timeline has shifted multiple times:
- Originally planned for Fall 2025
- Delayed to May 26, 2026
- Now officially rescheduled for November 19, 2026
The game will launch exclusively on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
For now, Rockstar has not clarified whether GTA Online progress will transfer to GTA VI.
