Capcom is reportedly working on Resident Evil 5 Remake, which will be the upcoming mainline entry making it one of the most influential horror IPs of all time.

A new ESRB rating suggested that the studio is preparing a full-fledged Resident Evil 5 Remake, or a remaster. A complete Resident Evil 5 Remake would make for a great chance for new franchise fans to experience one of the series’ most-beloved classic releases.

Resident Evil 5 Remake release date

Capcom is highly anticipated to announce official details in the upcoming PlayStation State of Play or next month. The title will be launched for the current-gen Xbox Series X|S consoles. ESRB rating has also mentioned that ‘in-game purchases’ weirdly enough, which has raised eyebrows in the industry. These tidbits suggest that the project is more likely to be a high-budget remake than a remaster.

However, the original game is available for Xbox Series X/S via backward compatibility, there is no native version of the game for that system. While most of the game listing is a boilerplate description of what qualifies Resident Evil 5 for a Mature rating, one curious element is a mention of in-game purchases.

While the original Resident Evil 5 did have additional purchases in the form of DLC, since the release of Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition, these have been included with the base game.

Whether Resident Evil Code: Veronica or Resident Evil 5 get the remake treatment first, it's highly likely that both are in development. Resident Evil 5 Remake is likely to give players a chance to revisit the classics in a reimagined light in-between new major entries.
