Bad news for the Call of Duty (COD) freaks: Activision has announced that the Carry Forward programme will no longer take place for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

“Operators, Operator Skins, and Weapons from Black Ops 6 will no longer carry forward into Black Ops 7,” the company stated.

What's the reason behind Carry Forward's removal for Black Ops 7

A week earlier, Activision indicated that the Carry Forward programme would return for Black Ops 7, but now it has been completely scrapped.

The COD maker pressed on the need for Black Ops 7 to feel authentic and reminiscent of the original Call of Duty series, which is why content from the previous game will not transfer.

It's worth noting that the decision will affect Black Ops 7, and all content from Black Ops 6 will remain usable in Call of Duty: Warzone.

However, double XP tokens and GobbleGums will continue to carry over, highlighting Activision's considerate attitude towards the importance of players’ time and progression.

Activision also addressed concerns about the identity of Call of Duty in its statement, acknowledging that many players feel the series has “drifted” from its original essence.

Although specific actions were not outlined to address these concerns, it appears that this massive change has come in response to the overwhelmingly extravagant skins, introduced over the past few years, that didn't get a warm reception from COD enthusiasts.

It's worth noting that the announcement comes ahead of Battlefield 6's release, with its developers aiming for a more grounded approach to multiplayer skins.
