OpenAI has announced offering unlimited access to Sora for all ChatGPT Plus subscribers this holiday season with a "relaxed queue." While video generation may take additional time, it’s a chance to experience the power of AI video generation.
Typically, subscribers on the $20 per month plan receive 50 video generations per month, with no option to increase that limit. The only way to unlock more video generations is by upgrading to the ChatGPT Pro plan, which costs $200 per month.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated: "Our GPUs get a little less busy during late December as people take a break from work, so we are giving all Plus users unlimited Sora access via the relaxed queue over the holidays!"
Other limitations on the Plus plan still apply, including video resolution capped at 480p for 10-second clips and 720p for 5-second videos. Plus subscribers also cannot use Sora to animate images of people, whether real or AI-generated.
Sora was finally unveiled on Day 3 of OpenAI’s 12 Days of OpenAI event, following a year of speculation. This flagship video generation tool offers a comprehensive suite of advanced features, allowing users to create high-quality videos in just a couple of minutes. Even with the relaxed queue, users can generate top-tier videos in under a minute.
However, it’s unclear how long the unlimited access will last, but it’s expected to continue into early January. This presents an ideal opportunity to test Sora without the need for the $200 per month Pro plan.
