While ChatGPT, the most widely used artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, is easily accessible to the ordinary public, its premium plans have mostly been untouchable to most, thanks to their sky-high prices. However, the ChatGPT maker OpenAI has changed this by launching the cheapest ever ChatGPT plan in India at $4.6.

Named ChatGPT Go, a new subscription plan which is exclusive to developing nations like India and Pakistan, has been priced at 399 INR ($4.57) per month.

This initiative marks the company's most affordable offering as it aims to strengthen its presence in its second-largest market.

Recognising India's price-sensitive nature, global companies frequently launch lower-cost subscription options to cater to nearly one billion internet users in the world's most populous nation.

The ChatGPT Go plan allows users to send up to ten times more messages and generate ten times more images compared to the free version, along with faster response times. Message limits further increase with higher-tier subscription plans.

ChatGPT Go is tailored for Indian users seeking enhanced access to ChatGPT's advanced features at a budget-friendly price, as stated by the Microsoft-backed startup. In comparison, the top-tier ChatGPT Pro is available for 19,900 rupees per month, while the mid-range ChatGPT Plus costs 1,999 rupees per month.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman met with India's IT minister earlier this year to discuss plans for developing a low-cost AI ecosystem. He also hinted at India, currently OpenAI's second-largest market by user base after the US, being on the verge of surpassing the US and becoming its largets market.
