The cheapest ChatGPT subscription, ChatGPT Go, is finally reaching 16 new countries across Asia, including Pakistan.

OpenAI's recent ChatGPT Go plan is priced under $5, and is now being expanded, besides Pakistan, to Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, East Timor, and Vietnam.

The standout development is that in select countries — including Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Pakistan — users can buy ChatGPT Go by paying in local currencies. In other regions, payments need to be made in USD, approximately $5, with a slight difference owing to local taxes.

ChatGPT Go offers higher daily limits for messages, image generation, and file uploads, not to mention double the memory of the free plan for more personalised responses.

The expansion follows a significant increase in OpenAI's weekly active users in Southeast Asia, which the company recently claimed has grown four times.

Initially, the plan was launched in India in August and expanded to Indonesia in September, where paid subscriptions have doubled.

As the GPT maker competes with Google, which launched its similarly priced Google AI Plus plan in Indonesia, the timing of expansion is believed to be the key to success.

At its recent DevDay 2025 conference, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman underscored that the number of ChatGPT's weekly active users has grown 800 million globally.

In spite of bearing a $7.8 billion operating loss in the first half of 2025, OpenAI sees its ChatGPT Go and other affordable subscription tiers as key to making profits.
