The Punjab government launched Pakistan’s first “EcoBot”, a smart digital assistant developed to improve environmental monitoring and citizen engagement.

According to Environment Protection Department Secretary Sajid Bashir, the AI-powered “EcoBot” is aimed to serve as a communication bridge between citizens and the department, offering people access to real-time information about air quality.

The secretary added that citizens can now check the Air Quality Index (AQI) of major cities, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, and Multan, with just one message.

'EcoBot' to monitor air pollution in Punjab

The “EcoBot” offers guidance on protection against air pollution and promotes healthy lifestyle practices, using artificial intelligence, and is capable of interacting directly with users.

According to the Environment Secretary, the provincial government aims to utilise technology to create a cleaner and greener Punjab through innovative digital solutions.

Earlier in April, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched Pakistan’s first-ever SMART Environment Protection Force, a groundbreaking initiative which is intended to address environmental challenges through innovation and technology.

The SMART Environment Protection Force is equipped with state-of-the-art tools, which include drone shadowing, real-time Air Quality Index (AQI) monitors, and mobile laboratories.

The launch of EcoBot marks a significant step in Pakistan’s efforts to combine technology and environmental management, offering citizens easier access to information.
