While most of the has long been baffled over the answer to the "How can AI help accelarate the journey to net zero?" mystery, Mahroosh Umer, a Pakistani AS-level STEM student, drew international attention with her response to this question, leading her multinational team to victory at the AI4Good Incubator 2025.
The five-day global techthon saw participants from hundreds of countries, tasking them to answer this: How can AI help accelarate the journey to net zero?
Umer headed her AI-powered winning project, AgriGuard.AI, a platform that assists smallholder farmers in adopting climate-smart agricultural practices, enhancing soil health and income generation.
By leveraging satellite imagery and soil data, AgriGuard.AI provides localised, actionable insights that make sustainable farming less and weary and more profitable.
“This journey was a crash course in empathy-driven innovation, AI ethics, and building tech that matters. I’m extremely grateful that kids like me have access to experiences like this,” Mahroosh shared on LinkedIn.
Creating an interactive prototype in Glide as part of her project, she allowed farmers to see how AI-generated insights could be integrated into their daily farming decisions.
The judges awarded AgriGuard.AI the top prize for its innovative approach, environmental impact, and economic benefits.
Umer's milestone underscores the rising influence of young innovators from Pakistan in solving global challenges, particularly those at the intersection of technology and climate action.
