Apple is set to make a major advancement in the artificial intelligence (AI) field with the upcoming Siri upgrade.

The Cupertino-based tech giant is set to make the voice assistant smarter and more versatile by enabling integration with third-party apps via App Intents.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has been working with popular iOS apps like Uber, AllTrails, Temu, Amazon, YouTube, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Threads to ensure seamless functionality.

Apple first announced the new system at WWDC 2024, targeting a release last spring.

However, the rollout was delayed due to engineering challenges, particularly with its hybrid approach that merges legacy and modern systems.

Internal testing revealed that Siri delivered inaccurate responses about a third of the time, prompting further refinements.

Despite these setbacks, Apple is moving forward, testing the upgraded Siri across various third-party apps and even some games.

Several third-party apps and even a few games are being used by the company to test the updated Siri.

The company is also building the system with deep integration for its own apps to maximise efficiency and performance.

Gurman also suggested the enhanced Siri could debut as early as spring next year, likely alongside iOS 26.
