Pakistan is gearing up for industrial modernisation with the establishment of an artificial intelligence (AI) Centre at the Pakistan Industrial Technical Assistance Centre (PITAC) in Lahore.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) Haroon Akhtar Khan confirmed the initiative that will strengthen the country's industrial capacity through AI-driven innovation, skills development, and machinery upgrades.
He announced during the visit that under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's directive, the PITAC AI Center will be expanded across the country.
The plan aims at equipping the youth with AI skills and preparing the industries of Pakistan for global competition.
"Prime minister has already ordered the launch of AI skills programmes and AI centres for the youth across Pakistan," he noted.
To support the development of AI and modernisation of machinery, PITAC will develop a joint funding mechanism along with Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) and Technology Upgradation and Skill Development Company (TUSDEC).
PITAC has also sought an increase in its development grant with a view to accelerating the upgrading process.
PIDC and PITAC will incentivise local manufacturing, technical innovation, and emerging technologies under the new National Industrial Policy.
Khan visited various labs, including Industrial Automation, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Dies and Moulds, Gauges, and Fixtures; inaugurated the AI Center with the financial support of PIDC; and approved some major machinery upgrades.
