As the government is going to introduce the Digital Nation Bill in Pakistan, State Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja said on Wednesday that the bill will make it possible to fetch computerised national identity cards (CNICs) and passports via smartphones.

Slated to come into effect in collaboration with the World Bank, the bill will transfer the power from institutions to citizens, making them independent, the IT minister noted.

She made these remarks while addressing a press conference in Islamabad, stating that the bill was formed after extensive deliberations of local and international experts in the IT space.

"The government is responsible for ensuring strong and high-quality internet and connectivity for users countrywide," stated the IT minister.

Besides the Digital Nation Bill which is set to be implemented in the near future, the IT ministry will join hands with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the interior ministry to introduce a policy to bring uninterrupted internet across Pakistan.

It's worth noting that the Digital Nation Pakistan bill will be presented alongside another seeking the establishment of a National Forensics Agency.

Khawaja assured that the IT sector has full backing of the government, claiming that the former will do anything to support IT industry.
