Relief for power consumers across is on the horizon as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is reviewing a request from the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) to drop electricity prices in Pakistan.
If approved, this reduction in electricity rates will be the second this year and will offer a relief of Rs1.69 per unit.
The impending plunge in Pakistan's electricity rates comes as users continue to bear the brunt of higher electricity bills.
The implementation of the decrement in question is pending the issuance of an official notification as NEPRA has completed the hearing on CPPA’s petition and is moving forward to assessing the data.
Overall, this reduction is expected to provide approximately Rs23 billion in relief on electricity bills for September.
Earlier in the year, the power regulator had approved a Rs1.89 per unit reduction for the quarterly adjustment covering April to June 2025.
The latest electricity rate cut decision, sent to the federal government for approval, will take effect from August to October 2025, extending total relief of Rs55.874 billion to electricity consumers across Pakistan, including K-Electric users.
It has been clarified by the power regulatory body that these reductions will not apply to lifeline or prepaid consumers.
