In what seems to be a relief to motorists across Pakistan, the government of Pakistan is expected to drop petrol and diesel prices from September 1, 2025.
In the upcoming fortnightly adjustmen due on August 31, petrol is speculated to undergo an insignificant dip of Rs0.61 per litre, while high-speed diesel might drop by as much as Rs3.13 per litre.
Other petroleum products are also likely to follow the possible downward trend. Kerosene oil may come down by Rs1.57 per litre, and light diesel could be reduced by Rs2.61 per litre.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has already worked out initial calculations, which will be forwarded to the Petroleum Division on 31 August, Ary News reported, citing sources.
This adjustment comes shortly after the government’s mid-August review, when petrol was kept steady at Rs264.61 per litre, but diesel received a significant cut of Rs12.84, bringing it to Rs272.99.
At the same time, kerosene was reduced by Rs7.19 per litre to Rs178.27, and light diesel dropped by Rs8.20 to Rs162.37.
If approved, the September revision will continue the downward movement in fuel prices, offering some relief to households and businesses struggling with rising costs.
