In a startling development raising concerns over the transparency of initiatives taken by Elon Musk, a recently launched government website named "Waste.gov" went offline after netizens nitpicked an eye-popping shortcoming in it.
The website, believed to be associated with Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), was a mere WordPress template which was made public unedited.
It was reported by The Express Tribune that the website was introduced days after US President Donald Trump assumed office on January 20. It's reportedly designed to keep a check on the Trump administration's follies and spending.
404 Media, an independent media company, found in an analysis of the website content that the website just displayed placeholder text from Twenty Twenty-Four, a WordPress theme, instead of providing the content it was meant for.
“We actually are trying to be as transparent as possible. We post our actions to the DOGE handle on X (formerly Twitter), and to the DOGE website,” Musk stated during an interview with an international media outlet earlier this week.
In addition to the absence of content for which waste.gov was developed, it also contained promotional material about an imaginary architecture firm.
Exposing an unexpected, displeasing manner of conduct on Musk's website, the tech mogul has been endorsing DOGE as a cost-efficient and reform-driven institution while bragging about the utmost transparency of its operations.
