Two state-of-the-art Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) have been deployed in Karachi as part of the Karachi Safe City Project (SCP).

Equipped with advanced camera systems, these vehicles are designed to enhance security and public safety across the city.

Each ERV is fitted with seven high-resolution 12MP cameras. Six of these focus on capturing number plates and recognising faces, while the seventh camera provides comprehensive coverage with its 360-degree rotation capability.

The cameras are also equipped with night vision technology, allowing efficient operation in low-light conditions.

Additionally, the ERVs are outfitted with internet and wireless communication systems. To maintain uninterrupted connectivity, the vehicles are equipped with wireless radios that enable communication with police stations in case of internet disruptions.

Currently, the ERVs are stationed in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area, with each vehicle staffed by a commander and three officers.

The commander is equipped with a tablet connected to the vehicle’s cameras, enabling real-time data transmission to the central command and control centre.

SCP in-charge operations, Shehbaz Mughal, disclosed that 23 more emergency vehicles will soon be deployed throughout the city, including on major highways.

Mughal added that these ERVs will not have fixed parking spots. Instead, they will be stationed wherever they are needed most, ensuring maximum coverage and effectiveness in enhancing security and response capabilities across Karachi.
