As it has begun offering discounts to annoyed Tesla owners, almost half of all Polestar 3 sales in the US during the first quarter of 2025 came from the targeted unhappy Tesla owners.

The Swedish EV maker revealed on Thursday that the incentive, which offers up to $20,000 off a Polestar 3 lease for Tesla drivers, played a vital role in increasing Polestar’s global deliveries by 76% to 12,304 vehicles between January and March.

"We piloted a conquest campaign in late February. Based on the positive response we ran a new campaign for the month of March. We are currently running a similar campaign for April," a spokesperson for Polestar told Reuters

Polestar’s US head of sales, Jordan Hofmann, noted that the discount campaign is part of a broader push to attract customers frustrated with Tesla and increasing backlash against Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

A fully equipped Polestar 3 can cost around $93,000, but with the Tesla discount, it drops to $73,000 — making it a compelling option compared to the Tesla Model S, which starts just under $80,000.

Produced at Volvo’s factory in South Carolina, the Polestar 3 is at the core of the brand’s US expansion efforts.

With heavy tariffs imposed on Chinese goods rising, Polestar is working to localise production and join automakers like Ford, Stellantis, and Hyundai in adjusting pricing strategies to remain competitive.
