The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Monday addressed rumours regarding an extension in the deadline for filing income tax returns for the fiscal year 2024-25.

Terming the reports "baseless and misleading", the revenue board said: "Majority of taxpayers reside in areas unaffected by floods and have had ample time to file their income tax return 2025."

The FBR further dismissed all reports regarding the slowdown of its Integrated Revenue Information System (IRIS) portal.

“IRIS portal is fully operational, functioning smoothly, and taxpayers can easily file their tax return using the new simplified income tax return form," the FBR added.

The FBR warned the citizens that failure to file income tax returns by September 30 will result in late-filer status and imposition of fines and other consequences under the Pakistani law.
