Fans of local co-op platformers can now play Wires and Whiskers. A delightful 3D sci-fi game starring a cybernetic lab-engineered gerbil in its magnetic exosuit, Wires and Whiskers is a free-to-play adventure on PC via Steam.
It combines the nostalgic feel of couch co-op classics with puzzle solving, platforming, and tactical battling.
While many current multiplayer games lean toward online play, Wires and Whiskers embraces the local co-op mentality. Officially launched on July 31, 2025, the game challenges two players to work together to survive in a lab overrun by mutated adversaries and unstable technology.
One player manages the gerbil and employs speedy and nimble melee attacks and movement. The other takes charge of the exosuit, which has long-range weapons and an array of usable magnetic features to solve platforming puzzles.
Survival requires coordination between the two players to navigate through the hazardous environment.
Games have likened Wires and Whiskers to Girlfriend Reviews' It Takes Two game. With a short, engaging 20–30-minute experience, featuring combat-focused encounters, magnetic platforming challenges, and impressive sci-fi environments, Wires and Whiskers was developed as students from ISTART DIGITAL's final-year project and has received a great response from players, even achieving a 93% positive rating on Steam at the time of writing.
