A new God of War game set in Greek mythology might be coming in 2025, according to rumours. The God of War series, developed by Santa Monica Studio, is one of PlayStation’s most popular franchises, following Kratos, a fierce warrior who battles gods and monsters.
After moving the story to Norse mythology in recent games, this new project is expected to revisit Greece.
Reportedly, it won't be a God of War remaster collection, but an independent side-story with limited scope. Speculation is that it will be in the vein of The Last of Us: Left Behind or Spider-Man: Miles Morales, with a smaller yet distinctive experience instead of waiting for the next main entry.
Grubb also mentioned that Cory Barlog, one of the primary masterminds behind the series, is possibly involved but that this is not the new big God of War game he has been labouring on. Some fans believed it might be a DLC for God of War Ragnarok, but Grubb assured that it is another project.
What to expect from new God of War Game
Gameplay and story details remain a mystery, but going back to Greek mythology has thrilled longtime fans. The game is rumoured to be announced sometime in 2025, perhaps during the God of War 20th anniversary festivities.
While PlayStation and Santa Monica Studio have not officially confirmed the project, these rumours suggest that God of War’s Greek era may not be over.
