Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Wednesday hailed the launch of Google’s first Chromebook assembly line in Pakistan, calling it a key milestone in the country’s journey toward a technology-driven and export-orientated economy.
Speaking at The Future Summit in Karachi, Aurangzeb said the government is planning to provide today's generation high-value digital opportunities that include coding, blockchain, and artificial intelligence.
“Google's plan to establish Pakistan as an export hub aligns with our vision for AI-driven growth. There are vast opportunities to expand the blue economy,” he said.
The assembly line was launched on Tuesday at a ceremony attended by Deputy Prime Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, who called it “a defining moment” in Pakistan’s digital transformation.
Aurangzeb stated that international rating agencies have recognised Pakistan’s economy is improving, and corporate profits have clarified a 9% increase.
He declared the government’s tax reforms added 900,000 new tax filers to the tax net and that digitisation will enhance transparency in formal economic processes. “Egypt has also expressed interest in learning about our FBR reforms,” he said.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to structural reform for sustainable growth and stated that Pakistan would further build on recent diplomatic and economic progress.
Aurangzeb also stated that the privatisation of 24 state-owned enterprises, including Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), is in progress, and that the PIA privatisation would be completed before the end of the year.
