Google finally brings to Android users the most awaited feature it needed — battery cycle information. This feature will be available for the Pixel 9 series, which would provide real-time information on the number of charge cycles, thereby enabling users to efficiently track their battery health and degradation.

Given that Apple introduced it a couple of years ago, the introduction of this feature into Google is quite a refreshing take on Android.

What is battery cycle information?

Battery cycle information is basically how many times the phone's battery has charged and discharged. This allows users to monitor the natural degradation of the battery over time. Since batteries tend to degrade in capacity, this feature helps determine whether your phone's battery should be replaced.

How to access battery cycle information on Pixel 9

To view battery cycle information on your Pixel 9, go to Settings > About Phone > Battery information. You'll see the battery's date of manufacture, first use, and charging cycles.

Why is battery cycle information important

Battery cycle information helps you to know if the capacity is too low. If the capacity of your phone's battery is dropping more quickly than it should, then you may need to have it replaced.

This feature also allows for trouble-shooting as a battery with few charge cycles may not be due for replacement unless defective.

While Apple has given us charging cycle information for years, Google is slowly catching up. Plus, a diagnostics tool in Android 15 would not only give you effective battery capacity but also let you test elements, according to Google.
