Although smartphone technologies have evolved too much over the past few years, there seems to be no hindrance against mobile phone snatching, a criminal encounter you must have been through once in a lifetime.

But tech giants have always something innovative up their sleeves to look after people's woes and bring an end to such crimes, especially Google which is reportedly releasing an assortment of security features for Android to help prevent mobile phone snatching.

As reported by Android Authority, the search giant is backing those security features with the artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

Google's anti-snatching features for Android

The anti-snatching features for Android were initially revealed in May 2024, including Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock.

The aforementioned features possess the capability to detect if someone gets mugged and loses his Android smartphone during the robbery.

If the criminal is running away with your phone on foot, by bike, or by car and the integrated AI detects the tragic event to be a case of theft or snatching, it will lock your phone right away, making your private data inaccessible by the thief or any unauthorised person.

Offline Device Lock feature automatically locks the device's screen if it suspects the thief is trying to disconnect your phone “from the internet for an extended period.” Whereas the Remote Lock feature will let Android users lock down their stolen phone using their mobile number only.
