In a bid to safeguard users' data, the Cabinet Division on Thursday issued a cyber security advisory for the usage of Wi-Fi and other wireless networks.

The advisory primarily alerted federal ministries, divisions and departments about a potential data breach and theft of sensitive information through wirelessly tethered internet services, according to The News.

Declaring Wi-Fi routers as insecure devices, the advisory stated that tinkering and disruption with network traffic are quite easy through Wi-Fi, which also allows rerouting traffic to unsafe networks through router updates.

Outlining common loopholes and instructions to strengthen routers, the advisory emphasised keeping Wi-Fi passwords as complicated as possible, and not sharing both IDs and passwords with suspicious elements.

Owing to a rise in vulnerabilities, security configurations and lack of awareness, notorious hackers could gain access to networks, inject malware and steal sensitive data.

To address the digital adversity, the advisory highlighted security threats to Wi-Fi connection along with prevention guidelines.
