Tech giant Meta has introduced an incredible tool to help Facebook creators safeguard their original reels from unauthorised use.

Called Facebook Content Protection, the new feature for copyright infringement alarms creators when their work is reposted on Facebook or Instagram.

With Facebook Content Protection, can creators remove their content reposted by someone?

Upon receiving a notification, creators can restrict the visibility of the reposted reel across both platforms, monitor its performance, or add attribution links directing viewers back to their profiles. The tool also offers creators the option to release their claim and let the reel remain available online.

This anti-content-theft measure is part of Meta's broader commitment to supporting originality on Facebook. In July, the company removed around 10 million profiles impersonating renowned creators and took action against 500,000 accounts involved in spam.

This content protection system safeguards reels originally uploaded to Instagram, but for tracking, the reel must be posted on Facebook or shared via Instagram’s cross-posting feature.

The access to this tool is currently rolling out to creators in Facebook’s Content Monetisation programme who meet Meta’s integrity standards.

The tool uses a matching technology, displays how closely a reposted video matches the original reel and provides insights on views and monetisation status.

Using the Facebook Content Protection tool, creators can also manage claims and challenge incorrect reports through Meta’s IP reporting channel.
