Honda Atlas Cars (Pakistan) Limited has officially started exporting Completely Built Units (CBUs). The company, a subsidiary of Honda Motor Co., sent its first shipment of 40 Honda City cars to Japan.
The Ministry of Industries and Production confirmed, saying that it indicates Pakistan's increasing potential in the international automobile market. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan has welcomed Honda Atlas for this achievement, terming it as a step towards export-led industrial development.
Pakistan’s auto industry expands global reach
Pakistan's automotive industry has historically been dominated by Toyota Indus Motors, Honda Atlas, and Pak Suzuki, with the majority of companies involved in assembling vehicles rather than producing complete units for exports.
But over the past few years, there have been attempts to make Pakistan a vehicle export hub.
Indus Motor Company (IMC), which produces Toyota vehicles in Pakistan, also started exporting some models to other Toyota-associated companies from July 2024.
Despite this progress, the local auto industry faces high production costs, supply chain disruptions, and currency fluctuations, making expansion challenging.
Government support for auto exports
Speaking at the export ceremony, Khan reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the auto sector with favorable policies. He encouraged local manufacturers to explore international markets, emphasizing that higher exports would boost industrial growth.
