In what seems to be a tactic to evade tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, Apple shipped nearly all iPhones exported by Foxconn from India between March and May 2025 to the US.

Citing customs data, Reuters reported that the number of iPhone exports to India significantly exceeds the 2024 average of 50%, highlighting Apple's strategy to get around massive tariffs enforced by the US President Donald Trump on imports from China.

The data revealed that Apple has reoriented its India exports to primarily serve the US market, ditching the broader distribution to countries like the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and Britain.

During the given period, Foxconn exported iPhones worth $3.2 billion from India, with a whopping 97% chunk arriving in the US, whereas in May 2025 alone, shipments to the US were recorded to be $1 billion, following a record $1.3 billion in March.

Trump recently announced a plan to impose 55% tariffs on China. On the other hand, India is currently facing a baseline 10% tariff and is negotiating to avoid a 26% "reciprocal" levy.

A total sum of iPhones exported to the US by Foxconn in the first five months of 2025 is $4.4 billion. This figure even surpasses the total of $3.7 billion for all of 2024.

The development comes as an outcome of Apple accelerating production in India, including chartering planes to transport iPhone models worth approximately $2 billion to the US.
